Look at a cloud. A cloud knows how to float, because clouds are not taught that gravity should pull them down. Clouds, ignoring gravity, cannot be embraced by it. That's why clouds float. Think like a cloud. Lean back, take a deep breath, relax and close your eyes. Forget what you learned about gravity. Lighten up. Let the weight fall from your mind. Some people find that a bit of monotonal humming helps at this stage. Release your mind from the tether of gravity and float up1, gently. Don't try to push yourself upward, just concentrate on the feeling of lightness. Be like a cloud, weightless and free. Once you start to float, avoid going too high up at first. When you are ready to come down, let just enough gravity creep into your thoughts to float slowly back to earth. Practice floating slowly up and down. It's OK to open your eyes if you are comfortable with that. Soon you will be ready to start drifting. Note 1: Be sure to practice floating indoors in a comfortable room with no sharp furniture. It is important to wear knee, elbow and head protection until you gain confidence, as hidden doubts can surface and result in a sudden drop. Don't do this outdoors, especially on windy days, until you have learned to control your float direction and velocity. |
